Softball Falls in Tournament Finale to Host Ospreys

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. –  Graduate student Imara Harrell connected on a solo blast in the second for Western Carolina, but a five-run first inning allowed the host North Florida to earn the 9-1 victory on Sunday afternoon in the finale at the River City Leadoff from the UNF Softball Complex.

Freshman Courtney Marks joined Harrell in the hit column as each tallied a hit in the defeat, with Harrell connecting on her first Catamount homer.

After the Ospreys shut down the Catamounts 1-2-3 in the opening half inning, the hosts saw the first two runners reach before a three-run blast, and a two-run base knock gave UNF the early advantage on Sunday afternoon.

The Catamounts answered in the second with a solo blast from Imara Harrell that cut the UNF lead to four after 1.5 innings.

After multiple scoreless frames, UNF extended its lead in the fourth with a two-run single to push its advantage to 7-1 after four innings.

The Ospreys connected on a two-run single in the fifth to claim the 9-1 tournament finale win in the River City Leadoff on Sunday afternoon.

Tessa Juett (0-3) went the distance for the Catamounts, allowing nine runs, with eight being earned as UNF tallied 10 hits.

Allison Benning (1-1) got the start for UNF and went 3.0 innings, allowing one hit and one run while recording three strikeouts. Kylah Berry tossed the final two scoreless frames, allowing one base hit and tallying a pair of strikeouts.

Following Sunday's finale in Jacksonville, the Catamounts head to the Peach State beginning on Friday, Feb. 14, for the Red & Black Showcase hosted by the University of Georgia in Athens.
