Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina women's tennis improved to 2-1 in Southern Conference play on Saturday afternoon using a commanding 6-1 decision over the visiting UNC Greensboro Spartans at the Catamount Athletic Complex. The 6-1 victory is the largest margin of victory for the Catamounts in series history, as WCU has taken three of their last four matches with the Spartans.

The Catamounts opened the day, clinching the doubles point thanks to wins on courts three followed by a tight battle on the top court by Angela Perez and Madison Schwarz and the pairing of Jade Groen and Chloe Schwarz, respectively. Perez and Schwarz rolled in their matchup, earning a 6-2 win to open doubles play.

Andrea Redondo and Isabella Sambola battled on the second court but fell 6-4, leaving the initial point to be decided on the top court. Groen and Schwarz secured the 1-0 lead for the Catamounts with a 7-5 decision, the duo's second 7-5 victory this season.

Groen, Sambola, and Chloe Schwarz finished in court order to clinch the victory and take a 4-0 lead.

The top three seeds for the Catamounts left little room for doubt in their matches, as the closest set was a 6-3 victory for Groen and Schwarz. All three standout Catamounts earned shutout 6-0 wins in their second sets of the day.

Hokualohi Lui and Angela Perez rounded out the singles victories for the Catamounts, beginning with Lui taking a 6-3, 6-2 decision. Perez capped the scoring for WCU with a 6-1, 6-4 result on her court.
