Humacao, Puerto Rico – Heavy rains on Thursday chased the 82 golfers from the course and ultimately shortened the scheduled 54-hole Puerto Rico Shootout to just 36 holes at the Palmas Del Mar with Western Carolina finishing seventh in the weather-shortened event.
WCU's senior
Elizabeth Lohbauer finished with a team-best ninth-place finish with a two-round score of 1-over par 145, with junior
Sadler Miller finishing in a tie for 10th a stroke back at 2-over par 146. Miller carded her career-low round of 3-under par 69 in Tuesday's opening 18 holes.
Rounding out the Catamount scoring five was freshman
Ella Kozak, who was tied for 34th at 6-over part 150, followed by classmate
Madison Lehr (t-58th,155) and sophomore transfer
Abby Bradley (t-72nd,160).
In addition to the scoring five, WCU's individual competitors included freshman
Annalee Caveney (t-72nd,160) and senior
Kaitlyn Wingnean (81st,174).
Second-round leader UNCG claimed the tournament championship in the shortened event after a 3-over par second-round score, besting runner-up James Madison by five strokes, 578-to-583. Boston College finished tied for third with a score of 586, sharing the second runner-up position with Southern Miss. FGCU finished two shots in arrears to place fifth as a team.
JMU's Hannah Rabb was awarded medalist honors with a two-round score of 5-under par 139, besting Little Rock's Anna Dawson and Lulu Leetham of UNCG in a tie for second place at 4-under par 140.
Western Carolina women's golf returns to action on Friday, March 21, at the City of Oaks Collegiate, hosted by N.C. State at the Lonnie Poole Golf Club in Raleigh, N.C. The 54-hole event features two days of competition, with a 36-hole round before 18 holes to close the event.
