Women's Basketball Adds Betsey Burnett for 2025-26 Season

Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina women's basketball continues to reload with transfer talent ahead of the 2025-26 season as second-year head coach Jonathan Tsipis and his staff announced the addition of in-state sophomore guard Betsey Burnett who spent last season at Johnson C. Smith.

A 5-8 guard from Charlotte, N.C., Burnett appeared in 50 games for the Golden Bulls, recording 25 starts during her two years at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) member school. After playing sparingly her first season in the collegiate ranks, Burnett came into her own during her sophomore year, averaging 13.6 points per game to accompany nearly three boards and 1.7 assists per outing. She connected on 42 percent of her field goal attempts (110-of-264) last season at Johnson C. Smith and knocked down 38 percent of her 3-pointers (49-of-128).

In her one appearance against an NCAA Division I opponent, Burnett scored 14 points with five rebounds, two assists, and a pair of steals against Gardner-Webb. She recorded a career-high 30 points against Savannah State in the season opener for the Golden Bulls last year.

Before signing with Johnson C. Smith, Burnett competed at South Mecklenburg High in Charlotte, where she averaged 16.8 points per game on 62 percent shooting from the floor, including 56 percent from beyond the 3-point arc.

Burnett joins Memphis transfer Ally Hollifield, a 5-7 guard from Shelby, N.C., as the two transfer additions to the 2025-26 Catamount roster.
