Catamounts vie for three titles at team event and individual tournament

Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina men's golf looks to keep the fall momentum going after consecutive top five finishes to start the season, traveling north to Farmington, Pa., for the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational, hosted by the University of West Virginia at the par-72, 7,526-yard Mystic Rock Golf Course at Nemacolin Resort.

The Catamount scoring five will vie for the team and individual medalist honors, while their individual competitors will compete in a separate event, the Shepherd's Rock Individual, hosted at the par-72, 7,515-yard Shepherd's Rock Golf Course at Nemacolin Resort. The courses are approximately 65 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, Pa., and just 36 miles northeast of West Virigina's campus in Morgantown, W.Va.

Both events get underway on Monday morning with 36 continuous holes of play, with the team event using a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., while the individual competition opens at 9 a.m.

Live scoring of the team and individual events is available online through the Scoreboard app, powered by Clippd – Nemacolin Collegiate Live Scoring | Shepherd's Rock Individual Live Scoring

In addition to the Catamounts and the defending event champion and host Mountaineers, the 19-team field includes Bucknell, Campbell, Davidson, Delaware, Eastern Kentucky, George Mason, George Washington, James Madison, Mount St. Mary's, Penn State, Richmond, Robert Morris, Saint Francis, Seton Hall, Towson, Virginia Commonwealth, and the College of William & Mary.

Coming off medalist honors at the home JT Poston Invitational, Tyler Jones leads the Catamount lineup entering the event. Jones, a transfer who spent the past two seasons with the Charlotte 49ers, enters the week leading the Southern Conference with a seasonal stroke average of 67.50 among those teams that have reported scores to date this fall.

Jones is flanked by senior Ivan Ninkovic, who is tied for third in the SoCon with a scoring average of 70.00, in the No. 2 spot. Juniors Jace Butcher (71.33) and Andrew Korytoski (73.33) are seeded third and fourth, with redshirt senior Josh Lendach (72.67) rounding out WCU's scoring five.

The Catamounts have three competing unattached in the Sheperd's Rock Individual, led by freshman Connor Williams (72.67) and joined by junior Dalton Payne, who is tied for 12th in the SoCon with a 71.67 scoring average, and classmate Michael Bevins (74.67), who qualified to make the trip.
