Elsa Maren Steinarsdôttir posted rounds of 78 and 76 over the contested 36 holes at the Tot Hill Farm Invitational to lead the Western Carolina scoring five in a tie for 24th place as the Catamounts came home 10th in the overall standings.
Steinarsdôttir carded a pair of birdies over the two rounds as the Akranes, Iceland, product knocked two strokes off her opening round score of 78 with a 4-over final round of 76 to advance eight spots on Monday. She charted two birdies, one per round, both coming on the par-3, 128-yard sixth.
Senior
Sadler Miller slipped four spots over the final 18 holes, following up her first-round 78 with a second-round score of 79, for a two-day total of 157. She carded a pair of birdies through the first round, with a third on the second hole of her second round on Monday.
Rounding out WCU's scoring five were graduate transfer
EC Niebauer in a tie for 50th with a score of 161 (83-78), sophomore
Annalee Caveney a stroke back in 52nd (84-78=162), and sophomore transfer
Emily Rosenschein in 70th (97-92 = 189). Niebauer recorded a team-best five birdies, three coming in the first round, and advanced six spots in round two, while Caveney moved up five positions with four birdies, three in the second round.
Tournament host College of Charleston rallied two spots over the final 18 holes to claim the team championship, edging runner-up Old Dominion by five strokes, 585-to-590. Coastal Carolina came home third with a two-day total of 599, followed by Wofford (602) and East Carolina (607).
Carla Bourdeaux of Coastal Carolina was the only player to card a pair of red numbers, finishing the event at 3-under par 141, to hold off hard-charging Emilie Von Finckenstein from Charleston with a 1-over par 145, who climbed 12 spots in the second round to climb onto the podium.
Originally scheduled for 54 holes over two days, the tournament was bumped up for a Sunday afternoon start to avoid forecasted inclement weather. With the teams unable to complete the full first round on Sunday, officials shortened the scheduled 54 holes to two rounds, concluding Monday afternoon.
Western Carolina women's golf returns to action on Oct. 13-14 in its penultimate event of the fall semester at the Terrier Intercollegiate, hosted by Wofford at the Country Club of Spartanburg.
