SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Coming off a pair of double-doubles, including a 50-assist, 12-dig performance in the reverse sweep of Bradley at the Blue Ridge Volleyball Classic, Western Carolina junior setter Katie Boney repeated as the Southern Conference Volleyball Setter of the Week as the league announced its weekly awards.
Boney earned her second straight weekly honor after leading the SoCon in assists per set at 10.18, dishing out a total of 112 helpers on the weekend, 35 more than any player in the conference. She was the lone player in the league to eclipse 100 assists, adding to her league-high 246 over the first six matches. She also added 29 digs, five blocks, five kills, and five service aces in the Blue Ridge Volleyball Classic.
Boney is the first Catamount to garner back-to-back weekly honors from the league since 2019, when Meagan Sanchez received three straight awards during the 2019 season. She is also the first Catamount to earn multiple weekly setter plaudits since the spring 2021 season, when Hannah Price received a pair of awards.
After opening the weekend with 30 helpers and five digs against former SoCon foe College of Charleston on Friday, Boney was busy on Saturday helping the Catamounts battle back from a two-set deficit to reverse sweep and stun Bradley in the first of two tilts for WCU. Boney recorded double-digit assists in three sets in the win over the Braves, including 15 helpers on WCU's 18 kills in the fourth set, winning 27-25 before earning the comeback in the fifth. She also added 12 digs to her stat line for her second double-double of the season. During the comeback win over the Braves, Boney became the 17th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career assists.
She finished the weekend off with another 32 assists and 12 digs against Charlotte for her third double-double of the season. The Brookhaven, Ga., product also added a career-high four kills to her stat line in the defeat to the 49ers.
On the season, Boney ranks eighth in the nation with 246 assists and is 17th nationally with 10.7 assists per set through the opening two weekends, leading the SoCon in both categories. She is 103 assists clear of the second-place setter in the conference, making her one of two players to average double-digit assists per set in the league.
