Spartanburg, S.C. – After producing one of the most prolific weekends by a setter in program history, Western Carolina senior Katie Boney was named the Southern Conference Setter of the Week on Monday.
The award is the sixth of Boney's career, tying Destinee Dorsey for the second-most weekly honors in program history and moving her within two of Meagan Sanchez's school-record total of eight.
Boney paced the Southern Conference with 11.89 assists per set last week, totaling a league-best 107 assists while adding 23 digs, 14 kills, five service aces and four blocks in Western Carolina's two-match series against Samford.
The Brookhaven, Ga., native opened the weekend with 38 assists and 14 digs in Thursday's four-set victory, recording her team-leading seventh double-double of the season. She also added a career-high eight kills, three blocks and two aces. Boney followed with a career performance on Friday, dishing out a career-high 69 assists in a five-set match against the Bulldogs. She also contributed nine digs, six kills and three service aces.
The 69-assist effort tied for the fourth-highest single-match total in program history and established a new rally-scoring era school record. The mark also stands as the highest single-match assist total recorded in NCAA Division I volleyball this season.
For the season, Boney leads the Southern Conference with 673 assists, 94 more than the league's next closest setter. She also ranks among the conference leaders at 9.48 assists per set and surpassed 2,500 career assists during the weekend, moving into the program's all-time top 10.
