Women’s Tennis Visits Presbyterian on Saturday

Catamounts face the Blue Hose at 2:30 p.m. in Clinton, S.C.

Cullowhee, N.C. – The Western Carolina women's tennis team closes out a busy week of competition as the Catamounts take on the Presbyterian Blue Hose on Saturday afternoon in the backend of a doubleheader for the Blue Hose. The match is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. after PC hosts the Queens Royals at 11 a.m.
 
The match between the Catamounts and Blue Hose is the 21st all-time, with Presbyterian holding an 11-8-1 record over the Catamounts. However, WCU has notched three straight wins in the series over Presbyterian, tied for the longest Catamount winning streak in the series history.
 
Presbyterian enters the weekend with a 2-2 record, falling to Furman (L, 6-1) and Austin Peay (L, 5-2), but with wins over Lander (W, 6-1) and Belmont Abbey (W, 4-3). The Catamounts are 1-5 after recently earning the first win of the season against Young Harris (W, 5-2) and falling to Gardner-Webb (L, 4-2), though the Catamounts only fielded four healthy players in the lineup.

Players to Watch:
Western Carolina's Mariya Dobreva and Mia Miranda enter Saturday's match with undefeated singles and doubles records. Dobreva has a pair of solo victories on the top court and leads the team with four singles wins so far this season. Miranda is undefeated on the second court and has won four consecutive sets by at least four games. The duo has partnered together as the top doubles pairing, going 2-0 against Young Harris and Gardner-Webb.
 
Presbyterian is led by freshman Ladina Bruhin, who has an undefeated 4-0 singles record on the top court heading into the matchup with Queens. The freshman from Weinfelden, Switzerland, has won three matches in straight sets, with her last three-set victory coming against Furman's Ellie Warren in a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6) decision.
 
Up Next for The Catamounts:
Following Saturday's match, the Catamounts currently have the week away from competition, with their next scheduled match slated for Feb. 24 against ETSU in the Southern Conference opener in Johnson City, Tenn. The Catamounts will then return home to host the NC A&T Aggies on Feb. 28 and the UNC Asheville Bulldogs on March 6.
