Cullowhee, N.C. -- The Western Carolina women's tennis team earned the Southern Conference spotlight this week as
Mariya Dobreva was named SoCon Player of the Week for her outstanding 6-0 record. The weekly honor is the first of Dobreva's career and the first for the Catamounts this season.
The Canadian product posted an unblemished 3-0 record in singles play, going undefeated at the top court for the Catamounts. Two of Dobreva's three singles wins came in straight sets as she posted a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 win over Young Harris and a 6-2, 6-3 win over Presbyterian. Additionally, she rallied from a 4-6 set one loss at Gardner-Webb with a 6-0, 6-4 victory.
The sophomore Colorado State transfer is currently on a four-match winning streak and is 5-2 in singles play on the season.

Mia Miranda rolled the competition in the week as well, going 3-0 as WCU's top duo. The two posted 6-1, 6-2, and 6-3 wins over Young Harris, Gardner-Webb, and Presbyterian, respectively.
Dobreva and the Catamounts have the week away from competition before returning to the courts to take on the ETSU Bucs in Johnson City, Tenn., on Feb. 24
