Mobile, Ala. – Chase Thurber and Peyton Skoglund led the Catamount track and field teams with a pair of event wins in the men's and women's 3,000m as the Catamounts wrapped up their first day of outdoor competition at the USA Invite, hosted by the University of South Alabama.
Skoglund finished her 3,000m a full 13 seconds ahead of North Georgia's Anna Hicks, with the junior posting a time of 10:22.06. Thurber also crossed the finish line with a healthy distance between himself and second place in the men's event, claiming first with a time of 8:34.91, seven seconds ahead of Mobile's Joey Jones.
The Catamounts additionally picked up a pair of third-place finishes in the women's triple jump and the men's high jump. Freshman Noah Brannon claimed third in the high jump with a 1.91m clear on his third attempt at the height, with Gisele Dulnuan-Kersey taking third in the triple jump with a 10.81m bound.
Austin Cline and Gracie Sutton took top-five finishes in the men's hammer throw and the women's weight throw, respectively. Cline's fourth-place finish came thanks to a 54.50m toss, while Sutton's finish came off a 1.56m clearance.
The Catamounts return to action in Mobile, Ala., on Saturday with an 11 a.m. start in the first full day of the outdoor season.
