High Point, N.C. – Western Carolina track and field secured 11 more Top Five finishes, including an event win by Cymoria Thomas in the women's 200m, as competition concluded Friday at the VertKlasse Meeting, hosted by High Point at Vert Stadium.
Thomas led the Catamounts on the day, edging out teammate Shaniya Shirley in the runner-up spot in the 200m. Thomas crossed the line with a 24.38s finish in the event, with Shirley close behind, clocking a time of 24.55s. Both times are season bests for the Catamounts in the 200m.
The Catamounts also took second place in both the men's and women's 400-meter hurdles. Christian Roberts earned the runner-up finish with a personal best time of 52.71s, with McCarey Beaty also recording a personal best with a 1:03.31.
Trevor Williams earned a podium finish on the day, taking third in the 800m with a personal best time of 1:53.71. Jada Erwin took fifth-place in the 400m with a 57.28s finish.
The Catamounts also took three top-five finishes in the relays, with the women's team finishing fourth in the 4x100m with a time of 46.75s and a pair of men's teams posting fourth and fifth-place finishes in the 4x400m at 3:15.80 and 3:18.08.
Off the track, Josh Flack earned a second-place finish in the men's high jump. The Catamount freshman set a personal best in the event with a clear of 2.07m, doing so on his third attempt at the bar.

WCU returns to action next week in split-squad action at the Duke Invitational and the Lenoir-Rhyne hosted Southside Power & Fitness Invitational. They'll then have a bit of time away from competition before hosting the annual Catamount Classic on April 24-25.
