Tennis Falls in Home Finale to Wofford

Cullowhee, N.C. – Mariya Dobreva posted an undefeated performance on the singles and doubles courts on Friday. Still, Western Carolina dropped its regular-season home finale to the Wofford Terriers at the Catamount Athletics Complex.

Dobreva and Mia Miranda powered to a top court doubles win, rallying for a 7-6 (10-8) doubles win through the tiebreaker, though the Terriers claimed the early point with a victory on the second court coupled with a forfeit at No. 3 doubles. Dobreva went on to win her singles match in a 6-1 defeat.

WCU (2-16, 0-6 SoCon) returns to action on April 7, visiting the UNCG Spartans in the regular-season finale. Wofford (7-10, 3-3 SoCon) closes out its regular season taking on the Mercer Bears in Spartanburg on April 10.

How it Happened:

Short-handed again, the Catamounts forfeit on the third doubles court, as well as on the fifth and sixth singles courts, with the Terriers taking command of the match early.

Wofford clinched the doubles point with a 6-0 win on court two, though Mariya Dobreva and Mia Miranda prevented the doubles sweep with a 7-6 (10-8) win on the top court. The teams moved to singles play with the Terriers leading, 3-0.

In singles competition, the Terriers secured the overall match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory on the fourth court. Wofford leapt up to a 5-0 lead in the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win on the second court.

Dobreva rolled to a straight-set, 6-3, 6-2 win over Wofford's Grace Agster. Dobreva's victory was her ninth of the season and her second in SoCon action. Of her nine solo victories, seven have come in straight sets.

Mia Miranda closed the day with a tight battle on the third court, but fell 6-4, 7-5 to Katie Godfree.

WCU is back in action on April 7, taking on the UNCG Spartans in the regular-season finale in Greensboro. They'll then swing to Chattanooga, Tenn., for the 2026 SoCon Championships on Apr. 16-18
