Cullowhee, N.C. – Return trips to six events from a season ago, a pair of first-time tournaments, and a trip to Puerto Rico for a fourth-straight spring highlight the 2026-27 Western Carolina women's golf schedule released today by third-year head coach Anne Marie Covar.
 
The schedule includes 10 combined tournaments, with five in both the fall and spring semesters, opening in late August in Clemson, S.C., and concluding with a return to the Columbia Country Club for the 2027 Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship, where the team champion and individual medalist, if not on the championship squad, garner the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Women's Golf postseason.
 
Five of the WCU's 10 events will be held in South Carolina, three in North Carolina, and the remaining two in Virginia and Puerto Rico.
 
For the third straight season, the Catamounts open the 2026-27 season in nearby Clemson, S.C., in the one-day, 36-hole Tiger Classic. The opener is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 24, at the par-72, 6,228-yard Walker Course.
 
"I'm excited to get the 2026-27 season teed off in a little over five weeks," said Covar. "We've got a competitive schedule ahead with some exciting new events mixed in.  I look forward to watching this team grow together on and off the course in the upcoming season." 
 
The first of two events in September is scheduled for Sept. 14-15, as WCU makes its first trip to the Elon Invitational, hosted by the Phoenix in Burlington, N.C., at the Alamance Country Club. Two weeks later, the Catamounts return to North Carolina's "Zoo City" for a third consecutive year for the Tot Hill Farm Invitational, hosted by the College of Charleston at the Tot Hill Farm Golf Club in Asheboro. The two-round tournament is scheduled for Sept. 28-29.
 
Consecutive weeks in South Carolina conclude the fall portion of WCU's schedule as the Catamounts return to the Terrier Intercollegiate on Oct. 12-13 at the Country Club of Spartanburg. WCU finished a season-best sixth at Wofford's event a year ago, with this year's trip marking the squad's seventh trip to the tournament in the past 11 years. The first half of the schedule ends at the Edisto Island Invitational, Oct. 19-20, at The Plantation Course at Edisto. The event is hosted by the College of Charleston in Edisto Island, S.C., about an hour's drive from the Cougars' downtown campus.
 
Western Carolina opens its spring semester on the Island of Enchantment for the fourth straight year, traveling to Puerto Rico for the Iguana Invitational, hosted by Ball State at the Palmas Athletic Club in Humacao, P.R. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is scheduled for March 2-4, 2027. WCU returner Elsa Maren Steinarsdôttir finished tied for sixth individually at last season's event.
 
The Catamounts return to action stateside two weeks later with a return to coastal South Carolina for the Low Country Intercollegiate, an event co-founded by Western Carolina and current host, Wofford. The 2027 tournament marks the seventh time WCU has traveled to the tournament, and the second time it will be hosted at The Golf Club at Indigo Run in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
 
The third event in March marks WCU's return to Raleigh for the first time since 2025 as the Catamounts play in the City of Oaks Collegiate, hosted by NC State at its home Lonnie Poole Golf Course on March 21-22. Two weeks later, Western Carolina plays its penultimate event of the season with its first-ever trip to the Hokie Highlander Collegiate, co-hosted by Virginia Tech and Radford. The final tune-up for the conference championship will be held at the Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech in Radford, Va., located in a bend in and along the banks of the New River.
 
The 2027 Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship returns to the Columbia Country Club in the South Carolina Midlands in Blythewood, S.C. It's the second straight season that the conference-champion crowning event returns to the par-72, 6,150-yard venue.
 
Catamount women's golf returns three golfers from a season ago, led by last season's leading scorer, Icelandic junior Elsa Maren Steinarsdôttir. She is flanked by classmates Annalee Caveney and Emily Rosenschein. Four freshmen join the trio on WCU's roster, including Julie Mathea Bush Braathen (Askim, Norway), Julia Capellini (Apex, N.C.), Kelsey Haverluck (Westfield, Ind.), and Marissa Scaletta (Belton, S.C.)
