Cullowhee, N.C. – Andrew Green, who has spent the past two years on staff at Western Carolina in his second stint with the Catamount women's soccer program, has been elevated to associate head coach by veteran head coach Chad Miller. The title change comes as Green enters his third season with the Catamounts after returning to Cullowhee prior to the 2024 season.
"We're excited to elevate Andrew to this position after two outstanding seasons with our program at WCU," said Miller, who himself was an assistant coach for the Catamounts from 2006-08. "For me, every decision starts with people. Having someone who got his first coaching opportunity here at WCU step into this role makes it even more meaningful. Andrew is an outstanding mentor to our players, and his passion for the game and for the people he coaches shows every day."
Since returning to Cullowhee in 2024, the Catamounts have posted a 25-9-7 record, claiming the 2024 Southern Conference regular-season title. WCU posted an undefeated home regular-season record in 2024, its second unblemished home mark in program history and the first at the Catamount Athletic Complex. The Catamounts followed their run of home success with an unbeaten road record in 2025, going 5-0-4. That record included wins over UNC Wilmington and Mercer, as well as a 3-2 result against NC State, marking WCU's first win over an ACC opponent.
"I'm very grateful to Coach Miller and our administration for this expanded role. I'm very fortunate to get to work with the fantastic student-athletes within our program and be a part of a staff with people who feel like a family," said Green, who began his collegiate coaching career as a volunteer assistant with the Catamounts in 2015. "I'd also like to thank my wife Allison for her constant support of me and our program. The last two seasons of Catamount Soccer have been unbelievable, and I'm excited to continue to raise the bar on and off the field."
The title elevation marks the second time Green has been named an associate head coach in his career. He held the same title during his final season at VMI before returning to Western Carolina. Green oversaw the goalkeepers during his time with the Keydets, a position group that has seen tremendous success over the course of his tenure in Cullowhee as well. Over the last two seasons, the Catamounts have 22 shutouts, including a program and Southern Conference record 14 in the 2024 campaign.
The Catamounts return to the pitch in Cullowhee on August 5, hosting Georgia State for a preseason exhibition at 7 p.m., before hosting Wright State on August 8 in a final exhibition match. WCU opens the 2026 season at home against the Winthrop Eagles on Thursday, Aug. 13.
