Charlie Coe Paces Men’s Golf Monday at Jaguar Invitational

The sophomore shot 1-under par 143, carding five birdies in the opening two rounds

Augusta, Ga. – Sophomore Charlie Coe fired a 1-under-par 143 on Monday to lead the Western Carolina men's golf team through 36 of the scheduled 54 holes at the season-opening Jaguar Invitational, hosted by Augusta University at Forest Hills Golf Club.

The Catamounts posted matching rounds of 291 for a two-round total of 582 (+6) and enter Tuesday's final round in fourth place in the team standings.

Coe carded five birdies across the opening two rounds and heads into the tournament's final day tied for ninth place in a crowded leaderboard, six strokes off the lead. Senior Jace Butcher sits tied for 15th at even-par 144, while freshman Brewer Lael, competing as an individual, is also tied for 15th.

The tournament concludes Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Western Carolina is paired with Augusta, Belmont, and High Point, beginning play on holes No. 1 through 4. Live scoring is available through the Scoreboard app powered by Clippd and online at CatamountSports.com.

Coe opened his sophomore campaign by matching his career-low round with a 1-under-par 71. He birdied the par-4 fifth and par-5 sixth holes on consecutive holes to move to 2-under before a bogey on the eighth dropped him back to 1-under. The Morrisville, N.C., native played his final 10 holes of the round at even par.

In the afternoon round, Coe offset three bogeys with three birdies, including back-to-back birdies to close his day, carding an even-par 72 and finishing at 1-under overall.

Butcher paced the Catamounts with nine birdies on Monday, tallying five in the opening round and four on the back nine during round two. The Kennesaw, Ga., native stood at 3-under through 17 holes in the first round before a late bogey left him at 2-under 70. After beginning the second round 3-over through the front nine, Butcher rallied with a 1-under back nine to post a 2-over 74 and finish the day at even-par 144.

Senior Andrew Korytoski is tied for 20th at 1-over-par 145 after climbing six spots in the standings with a second-round 71. He posted seven birdies across the two rounds. Sophomore Connor Williams is tied for 37th at 150 (+6), while senior Tyler Jones sits tied for 59th at 155 (+11).

Making his collegiate debut, Lael turned in one of the day's top performances among individuals. After opening with a 1-over 73, the freshman responded with a career-low 1-under-par 71, recording seven birdies on the day to finish at even-par 144.

Senior Michael Bevins, also competing as an individual, is tied for 25th at 3-over 147 after carding seven total birdies, including five during the second round.

Additional individual competitors for the Catamounts included senior Dalton Payne, who is tied for 54th at 154 (+10), senior transfer Andrew Perry, tied for 59th at 155 (+11), and freshman Connor Warren, tied for 68th at 161 (+17). Perry recorded five birdies on Monday, while Payne and Warren each tallied four.
