Austin Davis

Austin Davis joined the Western Carolina Sports Performance staff in June 2022 as the Assistant Director of Sports Performance. At WCU, Davis will work primarily with Catamount volleyball and men’s basketball.
 
A NCAA Division I student-athlete who played basketball at the University of Michigan, Davis comes to Cullowhee after completing a strength and conditioning internship at his alma mater where he served under Jon Sanderson, Michgan’s head strength and conditioning coach. He worked primarily with the Michigan men’s and women’s basketball teams, as well as the golf teams in his return to Ann Arbor.
 
His professional experience also includes working as an Outreach and Content Consultant for the midwestern-based Ballogy, connecting with high school coaches in developing various basketball and strength and conditioning virtual content programs. He also served as a Rehabilitation Technician intern at MedSports at Domino’s Farm and Cube where he worked alongside physical therapists.
 
Davis was a five-year letter-winner on the Wolverines’ basketball team where he was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten Conference selection, collecting Big Ten Distinguished Scholar accolades as a graduate student in 2021. He was earned Michigan’s Academic Achievement Award three times between 2018 and 2020. Davis played in 88 games with five starts for the Wolverines – each coming during his final season on the hardwood. He scored 286 points and pulled down 186 rebounds during his collegiate career, averaging over five points and nearly three rebounds per game over his final two seasons under head coach Juwan Howard.
 
During his time as an undergraduate, he assisted with numerous camps and clinics with the men’s basketball team. Following his graduation, he signed an international basketball contract with Klub Koszykówki Wloclawek of the Polish Basketball League – or the PLK – located in Wloclawek, Poland, before returning stateside to pursue the internship at Michigan.
 
Originally from Onsted, Mich., Davis graduated from the University of Michigan’s School of Kinesiology with a Bachelor of Science in Movement Science in April 2020. He earned his Master of Science in Movement Sciences in April 2021. He is CSS and NSCA certified, while also earning a USA Weightlifting Level 1 Coach certification.
