Western Carolina Volleyball Opens Season in Brion's Grille/Patriot Invitational

Fairfax, Va. - Western Carolina's volleyball team opened the season in the Brion's Grille/Patriot Invitational hosted by George Mason University September 1st and 2nd. The Lady Cats opened the season with a 0-3 loss to George Mason and 2-3 to Maryland-Baltimore County, Friday, September 1st.

Despite a disappointing loss to George Mason, sophomore Christy Attebery led the team offensively with 9 kills while freshman Pamela Stein proved to be a threat on the court recording 10 digs and six kills.

In the second match of the day, WCU fought back from a 1-2 deficit to defeat Maryland-Baltimore County 15-9 in game four. Unfortunately, they could not put the final game away losing a close 12-15. Six Lady Cats marked double figures, Stein with 10 kills, freshmen Sara Komosinski marked 13 kills and Shari Harder recorded 15 digs while juniors Bri Milan-Williams and Ashley Minton each recorded 12 and 15 digs respectively. Attebery had the teams only double-double with 19 kills and 11 digs.

WCU will play its final game of the tournament Saturday, September 2 at 2:00 p.m. against Central Michigan.
