Hilton Head, S.C. - The Catamounts women's tennis team improved to 5-5 for the season after defeating Southern Mississippi, Radford, and Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne in Hilton Head March 12-13. The Lady Cats won all three matches with a score of 6-1 for each match.

In the match against Southern Miss., Western won both number one and two doubles matches, 8-3, 8-7. There was not a third doubles match played that day. In singles play, Kristin Munn lost a tough match to Shawna Price, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 4-6. Fitzpatrick, Zalinski, Johnson, and Cotton all won their singles matches. Since there was not a player from Southern Miss. to play Emmy King, she was awarded the victory.

Against Radford, Western won all three doubles matches, 8-3, 8-4, 8-1. Western also won five out of its seven singles matches, including a perfect 6-0, 6-0 straight set win from Shannon Zalinski. Erin Johnson was unable to play in singles action, therefore, Barbara Wilson of Radford was awarded the win. Radford's Jennifer Hrabovsky defeated Western's Bethany Griffith, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

The Lady Cats also won all three doubles matches against Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne, 8-1, 8-0, 8-5. In singles action, Western defeated the Lady Mastodons in straight sets in the first through fifth positions. Hollie Thiene defeated Western's Bethany Griffith, 6-2, 6-2, to get the lone win for the Mastodons Wednesday.

The Catamounts' home match against East Tennessee State scheduled for today at 3:00 has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 6 at 1:00 pm. Western returns to action against UT Chattanooga this Thursday, March 21 at 2:00 pm at the Reid Gym Courts in Cullowhee.
