Boone, N.C. - Richie Williams passed for two touchdowns and Kevin Richardson ran for two more to lead Appalachian State to a 35-7 win over Western Carolina on Saturday.

The Mountaineers (7-3, 5-1 Southern Conference) held Western Carolina (5-4, 4-3) scoreless until midway through the fourth quarter to win the schools' 30th annual "Battle for the Old Mountain Jug."

Richardson put Appalachian State on the board with 10:26 to go in the first quarter on a two-yard run. Williams passed for two touchdowns to raise the lead to 21-0 with 21 seconds before halftime.

Richardson added a 3-yard TD run with 1:49 left in the third quarter to put the Mountaineers up 28-0, and Monte Smith returned an interception 22 yards early in the fourth to push the lead to 35-0.

The Catamounts' lone score came with 7:22 remaining, as Josh Lee hit Michael Hines with a 5-yard TD pass.

Richardson gained 102 yards on 23 carries and two TDs for the Mountaineers, who rushed for 235 yards while holding Western Carolina to 59 yards on 32 attempts. Williams completed 10 of 15 passes with one interception for 164 yards for Appalachian State. adding 84 yards rushing.

For the Catamounts, Darius Fudge had 81 rushing yards, averaging 5.1 yards per carry. Justin Clark was 9-of-15 for 104 yards, while Josh Lee came off the bench to complete 5-of-7 passes for 47 yards, including a five-yard TD to Michael Hines. Defensively, Lamar Barnes had 12 tackles, while Mitchell Dukes registered nine. Francis Brown and Corey Ellison each had interceptions.
