Battling cold weather conditions, the Western Carolina tennis team dropped a 6-0 decision to Coastal Carolina Saturday afternoon at the Catamount Athletic Complex. Only singles matches were contested due to the impending threat of snow.
Western Carolina drops to 1-2 on the season while Coastal Carolina remains unbeaten at 6-0.
The Lady Chanticleers swept all six matches 2-0 except the match at No. 4 singles, where WCU's Susanna Sjokvist fell in three sets 3-6, 6-2, 1-6 to CCU's Amy Pazahanick.
In other matches, junior Trish Hanson fell to Hayley Rudman 3-6, 0-6 at No. 1. Coastal Carolina's Sarize Coetzee took down Tessie Salame 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 2 match. Mariona Trilla Jane fell in her match at No. 3 singles to Kimberley Webb, 2-6, 0-6. In the No. 5 singles match, Amanda Massey fell to Tina Petkova 3-6, 3-6 while Holly Stocks faltered in the No. 6 match to Maria Camberos, 1-6, 0-6.
Western's match with the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs which was scheduled for Sunday afternoon has been postponed and rescheduled for April 14 at 1:00 pm in Cullowhee. The Catamounts next take to the courts to open their Southern Conference slate against the College of Charleston on Friday, March 2 at 1:00 p.m. at the Catamount Athletic Complex.
