Western Carolina at Wofford - Post-Game Notes:

Oct. 18, 2008

Western Carolina Game Captains:
Red-shirt Freshman QB #12 Zack Jaynes; Junior CB #16 Antoine George Wofford won the opening coin toss and elected to defer; Western Carolina received the opening kickoff.

Notes:
* Following the loss, Western Carolina has dropped 19-straight Southern Conference games over the past three seasons, falling to 2-6 overall, 0-4 in the SoCon ... WCU has now dropped three-straight to Wofford - and 10th in the last 12 meetings in the overall series;
* With the loss and remaining number of games, WCU would need to win-out to have a best finish of .500 at 6-6;
* Senior Chaz Jackson recorded his first career interception in the loss - the first pick thrown by the mostly run-oriented Wofford Terrier offense; * Eight different Catamounts caught passes from WCU's two quarterbacks, Zack Jaynes and Andy Horn.

OPENING SCORING DRIVE: Western took the opening kickoff 86 yards in 16 plays - the second-longest scoring drive in terms of plays this season ... WCU had a Zack Jaynes rushing TD called back by a holding penalty - however, on the very next play, Jaynes found Marquel Pittman on a fade corner route for the score.

CONSECUTIVE START STREAK SNAPPED: For the second-straight week, Western Carolina had a consecutive start streak snapped ... Last week, Kevin Wiggins' string of games started was snapped at 28 games ... Against Wofford, senior DL Jeff Bradley's consecutive start streak was ended at 24 games after missing the start due to a severely bruised heel.

14-POINT SWING: QB Zack Jaynes found tight end Andrew Rogers in the open, looking to cap a scoring drive that would have again given WCU a one TD lead ... However, Western's XX giveaway of the season turned into a 98-yard Wofford drive, capped by a 74-yard rush, and a 14-7 Terrier lead - a 14-point turnaround.

FIRST TERRIER INT OF THE SEASON: Western Carolina and Wofford were the last two teams in the Southern Conference to throw a pick on the season - WCU did so with two INTs against Samford, two games ago ... Wofford's first INT of the season came on Saturday when WCU's Chaz Jackson dove in mid-air to snare a deflected ball midway through the fourth quarter.

CONVERTING TURNOVERS INTO POINTS: Western Carolina turned Wofford's only turnover of the game into its first touchdown following a takeaway ... WCU had nine previous turnovers but only managed six points off two field goals ... Jaynes found Andrew Rogers from three-yards out to record the TD.

PITTMAN CATCHES CAREER RECORD: Red-shirt sophomore WR Marquel Pittman hauled in a career-high nine passes in the loss at Wofford for a game-high 84 yards receiving and a touchdown, his fourth of the season and ninth career.
