ELON, N.C. - Western Carolina volleyball (6-20, 3-9 SoCon) was without the services junior libero Liz Rondone, who was out with an injury, and had its two-match winning streak snapped with a 3-1 (13-25, 21-25, 25-22, 20-25) loss to Elon (17-12, 6-7 SoCon) Saturday.
Rondone, who holds the all-time record in career digs, was injured in practice earlier in the week and is listed as day-to-day. In her absence freshman Carrie Minogue played back row for the Catamounts.
"Liz had to sit out the match against Elon but we are hoping she will be a go for the match against UNC Greensboro," said Head Coach Stephanie Dragan. "Carrie did a great job in the back row for us, I was very proud of her effort."
Minogue recorded a career-high 14 digs in her substitute role. She also had nine kills and a service ace.
Elon avenged an earlier loss to the Catamounts taking the second meeting in four games. The Phoenix took the first two games heading into halftime, but Western Carolina fought back in game three to take the game and force a game four.
Tied at 19 in game three, back-to-back kills by Amanda Kerr gave Western Carolina a two-point lead. Kerr was instrumental in the win in game three as she accounted for four kills, including the last one of the game, to extend the match to four games.
Western Carolina hit .254 in the match and had just 16 errors in the contest. Kerr led the Catamounts with 11 kills while setter Katie Hennessey had a double-double with 33 assists and 16 digs.
Western Carolina will play at UNC Greensboro at noon on Sunday.
