Notes:
* Saturday's loss to Elon was Western's third-straight to the Phoenix ... it also evened the series between the two since Elon joined the Southern Conference in 2003 (3-3);

* Western's 49 yards rushing was its second-lowest output of the season ... the Catamounts only amassed 19 yards rushing in a home loss to nationally-ranked Liberty back on Sept. 13;

* Charting the turnover battle, Western gave up one fumble and had one interception on the day ... WCU has 13 takeaways in its last three games versus just three giveaways;

* Sophomore Mitchell Bell recorded his team-leading fourth interception of the season, picking off Elon QB Scott Riddle and returning it a career-high 55 yards for his first career touchdown to pull WCU to within six points, 13-7 early in the third quarter;

* Freshman WR Andrerius Thomas caught his team-leading fifth TD pass late in the third quarter to pull WCU to within a score, 20-14 ... Thomas has caught a touchdown pass in four-straight games, including a career-best two against Chattanooga a week ago;

* Listed as doubtful entering the game, WCU red-shirt sophomore WR Marquel Pittman dressed and did make an appearance during the first quarter ... However, after halftime, Pittman returned to the field in street clothes ... Red-shirt freshman RB Quan Warley also dressed for the first half only, but did not enter the game;

* Western Carolina nearly had its first safety since 2006 midway through the second quarter after a Blake Cain punt was downed inside the one-yard line ... the Catamount defense surged ahead and appeared to catch the Phoenix back inside the goal line before forward progress was awarded back to the one;

* Western Carolina blocked its fourth placekick of the season midway through the fourth quarter when Jeff Bradley broke through and swatted Andrew Wilcox's attempt ... WCU has blocked a pair of field goals and a pair of extra points on the year;
