BOONE, N.C. - Western Carolina volleyball dropped a Southern Conference match-up with Appalachian State 3-0 Wednesday. The Catamounts fall to 3-13 and 0-2 in the SoCon while the Mountaineers improve to 6-10 and 2-0 in the SoCon.
The Catamounts struggled throughout the three-set match and ended the contest with a .122 attack percentage. Paloma Alvarez led the club with six kills.
"Our blocking and defense was there for us tonight and we struggled to put the ball away," said Head Coach Manuel Concepcion. "We just didn't take care of things that we can control on our side of the court. We struggle against ourselves; not our opponent."
Western Carolina did make it close in the third set, falling 25-20. The Catamounts cut the Mountaineers lead to two, 17-15 off an ASU service error. ASU was poised to take the match leading 24-18 but kills by Carrie Minogue and Brittany Lysik extended the match before the Mountaineer's Becky Norris notched a kill to end the game.
The Catamounts continue their Southern Conference road swing playing at Elon on Saturday. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
