Volleyball Season Concludes in Loss at Elon

ELON, N.C. - Senior Paloma Alvarez concluded her playing career with the Catamount volleyball team on Saturday night, posting a team-high 10 kills in a 3-0 loss to Elon.

Junior Carrie Minogue recorded seven kills in the loss while freshman Kelcie Randazzo posted her team-best 12th double-double of the season with 21 assists and 10 digs. Freshman Morgan Cochran posted a team-best 11 digs and sophomore Amanda Chaparro added 10.

Elon recorded a .298 attacking percentage in the match to WCU's .063 attacking percentage. The Phoenix also posted five more team blocks (7-2).

Elon's Carline Lemke amassed a match-high 11 kills with only one error for a .625 clip while teammate Megan McMahon had a match-high 36 assists.

The Phoenix scored 18 of the first 21 points in the first set - including 12 consecutive points - to take an 18-3 advantage. WCU went on a 3-1 run to get within 13 (19-6) before Elon responded by going on a 5-1 run to take a 24-7 lead. The Catamounts rattled off five consecutive points, but a kill by Elon's Lauren Copenhagen gave the Phoenix the set, 25-12.

Set two saw Elon and WCU stay close midway through the set - with neither team leading by more than four points - until the Catamounts got within two (15-13) before the Phoenix went on a 6-2 run to take a 21-15 advantage. A kill by Rebecca Stoltz cut the WCU deficit to five (21-16), but Elon scored the final four points of the set to win, 25-16.

WCU tied the third set at four, but never led in the third set as Elon jumped out to a 15-9 advantage. WCU scored three of the next five points to close within five (17-12) before the Phoenix used 6-2 run to take a 23-14 advantage. The Catamounts scored six of the final eight points of the set - including a 5-0 run to get within four (23-19) - but a WCU service error ended the match, 25-20 in favor of Elon.

The Catamounts finished the 2010 season with a 6-26 overall record a 1-15 mark in Southern Conference action. WCU has now gone four seasons without a road win in SoCon action dating back to a 3-2 win at The Citadel on Nov. 4, 2006.
