#1 Alabama 48, Western Carolina 14
Bryant-Denny Stadium
Tuscaloosa, Ala. - Saturday, November 22, 2014
Att: 101,325
With the Loss ...
- Western Carolina finishes its 2014 season with a 7-5 overall record - its best since posting a 7-4 record at the conclusion of the 2001 season;
- The Catamounts dropped their fourth-straight game in the overall, head-to-head series against Alabama, all coming since 2004 ... This year's meeting represents the highest-ranked opponent a Catamount football team has ever faced.
Post-Game Notes:
- Western Carolina junior quarterback Troy Mitchell became the school's all-time single-season leader in total offense, finishing with 204 yards on Saturday and 3,096 yards on the season ... The previous mark was 2,984 by David Rivers during the 2000 season ... Mitchell entered Saturday's game just 92 yards shy of the record and got 221 yards through the air and rushed for -17 yards;
- Western Carolina took the opening kickoff 75 yards in nine plays, scoring a touchdown on a two-yard, Troy Mitchell to Spearman Robinson pass ... It was just the third opening drive TD in 2014 for WCU ... To date, WCU is the ONLY team to score a touchdown on its opening drive against the Crimson Tide in 2014;
- WCU's game-opening touchdown drive represented its first touchdown against Alabama in four all-time series meetings - the only other points the Catamounts had against the Crimson Tide came on two Jonathan Parsons' field goals in the 2007 meeting;
- Sophomore DB Trey Morgan came up with his team-leading sixth interception when he picked off a Blake Sims pass in the end zone in the first quarter, halting a string of 158-consecutive attempts without an INT for Sims (third-longest streak in Alabama history) ... Morgan's six INTs are the most for a Catamount defender since Torez Jones had seven back in 2010;
- With two first half passing touchdowns - both to Spearman Robinson - WCU junior quarterback finished the season with 20 passing TDs, tied for the second-most in school single-season history matching Lonnie Galloway (20, 1992) ... Mitchell now has 36 career passing touchdowns to rank third in program history after three seasons ... Mitchell is just three shy of second-place Don Dalton (39, 1966-69) and seven behind all-time leader Mike Pusey (43, 1977-79);
- Western Carolina's two first half scores represented the first time this season that Alabama had allowed two offensive touchdowns in the first half this season;
- Spearman Robinson's two touchdown catches gave the redshirt sophomore a career-high 11 in 2014, tied for second in the school's single-season record book ... It was Robinson's third multi-touchdown reception performance of the season;
- Western Carolina's 14 points scored against Alabama were more than five of the Crimson Tide's seasonal opponents - all from the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS): Florida Atlantic, 0 ... #21 Texas A&M, 0; Southern Miss, 12 ... Arkansas, 13 ... LSU, 13 in OT;
- Senior linebacker Christon Gill finished tied with sophomore Trey Morgan with 10 tackles to lead the Catamounts ... Gill, playing in his final game, recorded his fifth double-digit tackle game of 2014 ... He finished his WCU career with 284 tackles including a career-best 112 this season;
- Redshirt senior defensive back Ace Clark finished with five tackles on Saturday, closing his WCU career with 339 career stops to rank second all-time in WCU's career record books;
- Saturday's attendance of 101,325 at Bryant-Denny Stadium was the largest crowd a WCU football team has ever played in front of, surpassing the previous high of 101,126 also against Alabama.

- Western Carolina's team captains for Saturday afternoon's game were #10 Troy Mitchell, #28 Ace Clark and #37 K.P. Hicks ... Also out for the coin toss were senior in quarterback #10 Troy Mitchell and tailback #20 Darius Ramsey ... Western Carolina won the opening coin toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff;
- Redshirt junior WR #14 Karnorris Benson carried out the "All You Got" flag while senior DB #24 Terrence Green carried out the American flag during pregame on Saturday.
