ORLANDO, Fla. - The Western Carolina women's tennis team added a late match to their annual Spring Break trip as the Catamounts took on Seton Hill University Saturday afternoon. The match featured a rare occurrence as WCU head coach Michaela Kissell-Eddins faced off against her mother, Kim Kissell, who is the head coach of Seton Hill.

"This spring break has been filled with fun times, great matches, and beautiful weather," said head coach Kissell-Eddins. "I'm very thankful we had another opportunity today to gain experience and work on our games before we headed back to Cullowhee. It was also really cool to compete against my mom's team. I'm not sure how many times that has happened before that a mother and daughter coached against each other but it is something really cool to say we did. I'm so incredibly proud of her and even though I got the W today I still think she's the better coach. After all she's the reason I'm where I am today."

The Catamounts jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as WCU swept all three doubles matches winning 6-1 on every court. Freshman Lauren McCall and sophomore Alexa Webb were first to finish on court three while sophomore Savannah Taranto and freshman Jordan Strickland clinched the point at No. 1. Junior Elizabeth Ansari and freshman Madison Riley took the final victory at No. 2.

Ansari made quick work of her opponent at No. 6 singles wining in straight-sets 6-0, 6-0 to give WCU a 2-0 lead. Riley was next to earn a victory as she won at No. 4, 6-2, 6-1 to up the Catamount lead to three. The victory moved Riley into sole possession of third in the WCU record books for singles victories in a season with 12. Webb and Strickland are on Riley's heels as they sit one and two wins behind the freshman, respectively, this season.

Strickland clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 1 earning her 10th victory of the season. Taranto pushed WCU's lead to 5-0 as she won at No. 2, 6-1, 6-3. The final WCU victory came at No. 3 as Webb picked up her 11th victory of the year with a 6-1, 6-1 downing of her opponent.

McCall won the opening set 6-2 at No. 5 but fell 6-3 in the second set. Seton Hill was able to take the tiebreaker 10-8 to earn its lone point of the match.

WCU will now head back to Cullowhee to begin preparations for its match against USC Upstate on Wednesday, March 15 at 3 pm in Spartanburg, S.C.
