Blackmon Earns Most Valuable Field Athlete at ETSU to Lead WCU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Senior Alisha Blackmon of the Western Carolina track & field team was named the Most Outstanding Field Athlete at the 2018 ETSU Track & Field Invitational Saturday to lead the Catamounts in their first action of the 2018 season. The Catamounts posted 15 top-five finishes on the final day including winning the women’s 4x400m relay.

Blackmon won the weight throw Friday and followed that up with a third place finish in the shot put with a toss of 12.56m (41-02.50).

Sophomore Kellsie Whitehead, senior Sally Woerner, graduate transfer Ty-Leah Hampton and junior Dasha Arnaut teamed up to win the 4x400m relay. The quartet clocked in at 3:53.60 to lead the field.

Hampton, who was in her first action wearing the Purple and Gold after transferring from Winston-Salem State, took second in the women’s 200m as well after stopping the clock at 24.86. She added to her tally in the 60m as she and sophomore Jazmine Gooden tied for third overall after racing down the track in 7.67.

Gooden added a second place finish to her haul as she took the silver in the long jump after touching down at 5.72m (18-09.25).

Junior Kaitlyn Lingard also earned a second place finish in the one mile as she was the top collegiate finisher. She completed the distance in 5:10.18.

Arnaut took third in the women’s 400m after she rounded the track in 59.09.

Lingard, junior Christina Nikolaou, freshman D'Amani Bryant and freshman Dominique Delisser teamed up to take third in the women’s Distance Medley Relay as they completed the race in 12:30.71.

Junior Caleb Albrecht, junior Miles Greer, junior Jordan Bostian and sophomore Tyler Robakiewicz teamed up to take third in the men’s DMR as the quartet turned in a time of 10:31.93.

Senior Mateius Brown and junior Dakota Wright took fourth and fifth, respectively, in the men’s shot put. Brown tossed the element 15.30m (50-02.50) while Wright turned in a distance of 14.91m (48-11.00).

Senior Meghan Breden topped 3.55m (11-07.75) in the women’s pole vault to secure a fifth place finish.

Bostian took fifth in the men’s one mile after stopping the clock at 4:22.67 while freshman Mike Jones finished fifth in the 60m hurdles after racing down the track in 8.41.

The Western Carolina track & field team will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 27 at the SoCon vs. Big South Challenge hosted by VMI.
