Catamount Classic Day One Results
CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Western Carolina closed day one of the Catamount Classic Presented by The Catamount Travel Center with three victories Friday at the Catamount Athletic Complex.
Senior Scott Peretin won the hammer throw with a mark of 57.32m as the Catamounts took five of the first six spots in the event. Dakota Wright was third with 50.70m, Chase Sterling was fourth 49.67m, Mateius Brown fifth 47.18m and Jay Stanley sixth 46.50m.
Freshman standout Jaelyn Warren won the high jump with a leap of 1.71m. Teammate Ashley Parker was seventh with a leap of 1.56m. On the men's side of the high jump, D'joun Huitt was fifth with a leap of 1.89m.
Distance runner Isaiah Hanna won the 10,000m run with a time of 34:14.19. In the women's 10,000m Madison Goode placed second crossing the finish line at 43:19.01.
Western Carolina had a third and fourth place finish in the hammer throw. Simone Williams placed third with a throw career-best throw of 52.51m besting her mark of 49.88m. Teammate Alisha Blackmon was fourth also with a career-best throw of 51.18m.
In the women's shot put, Western Carolina picked up a second and fifth place finish. Sally Woerner had a career-best mark of 10.36m for second place and Erin Willards was fifth with a throw of 8.55m.
There was a new facility record in the javelin with a throw of 72.8m (239.01) by former Citadel and current USA leader in the javelin throw Capers Williamson. He snapped an eight-year-old facility record set by former Catamount Matt Evans in 2010 with a throw of 214.09.
Action resumes on Saturday with the completion of the decathlon and heptathlon at 10 a.m. The first individual events of the day will be the men's shot put at 12:15 p.m. Western Carolina's senior day ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m.
