TAMPA, Fla. – Western Carolina track and field's Mateius Brown, Kevin Hires and the men's 4x400 meter tandem closed out 2018 in the final day of the NCAA East Preliminary on Saturday in Tampa, Fla.

Brown competed in his second event at the NCAA East Preliminary competing in the shot put. The 2018 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field shot put champion placed 45th with a throw of 15.14 meters. Hires had a leap of 14.72 meters to finish 33rd in the triple jump.

The combination of Dakota Lamont, Henry Kiedy, Devaniel Dale and Chace Washington-Saunders placed 22nd in the 4x400 meter with a time of 3:13.96.
