Cullowhee, N.C. – Seeking its fourth, top five team finish of the fall portion of its 2019-20 schedule, the Western Carolina women's golf team heads north to Boone for the Hound Ears Intercollegiate, hosted by rival Appalachian State at the par-72, 6,069-yard Hound Ears Club.
The two-day, 36-hole tournament is scheduled for 18 holes of competition on both Monday, Oct. 14 and Tuesday, Oct. 15. There is no love scoring for the event, though results will be posted online at CatamountSports.com at the conclusion of play both days.
In addition to the Catamounts and the host Mountaineers, the six-team Hound Ears Intercollegiate field includes Gardner-Webb, Longwood, defending event champion William & Mary, and fellow Southern Conference foe, Wofford. WCU is paired with Appalachian State and Longwood, teeing off on Monday beginning at 9:30 am until 10:20 am with its one individual competitor.
WCU started the fall semester by edging the Mountaineers by two strokes at the three-team Judaculla Cup, hosted at the Waynesville Inn Golf Resort, winning its first tournament under second-year head coach Courtney Gunter and the program's first since 2014. The Catamounts followed that team win with a third-place showing at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate and a fourth-place finish at the Winthrop Fall Invitational, marking the squad's best start to a season in several years.
The Catamount scoring five includes junior Maya White, sophomore Madison Isaacson, freshmen Victoria Ladd and Bailee Twiford, with senior Brianna Plummer rounding out the side. Junior Hazel Martin will complete for the individual title unattached.
Complete recaps and results from both days of competition will be made available on CatamountSports.com following the conclusion of play.
