Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina volleyball looks to get back on the winning track Saturday as the Catamounts travel to Samford for a 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT contest against the Bulldogs.

The Catamounts are 12-8 overall and 6-1 in the Southern Conference following a 3-0 setback to ETSU on Wednesday. The loss snapped a 10-match winning streak for the Catamounts, which was their longest since 1985. Sophomore Merry Gebel led the Catamounts with nine kills while senior Abigail Veit topped the defensive effort with 11 digs.
Senior Meagan Sanchez won her third straight SoCon Defensive Player of the Week award on Monday after the Bristow, Va, native recorded 42 digs over seven sets for an average of 6.0 digs per set.
Samford is 12-4 and 6-0 in league matches after wins over Furman and UNCG last weekend. The Bulldogs, who were idle Wednesday, lead the SoCon in assists and kills. Lauren Deaton and Kelsi Hobbs rank 1-2 in the league in kills per set.
Saturday's match is the 31st all-time meeting between the schools with the Bulldogs holding a 23-7 edge.
Western Carolina returns to the Ramsey Center next weekend, hosting UNCG on Friday at 6 p.m. and Furman on Homecoming Saturday at Noon.
