Box Score 2 Catamounts Split on Opening Day of Windy City Invitational
Chicago – The Western Carolina volleyball team split a pair of matches on Friday, dropping a 3-0 decision in the morning against Cal State Fullerton before a 3-0 sweep of Alabama State in the afternoon.
WCU is now 2-3 on the season.
Match 1: Cal State Fullerton 3, Western Carolina (26-24, 25-21, 27-25)
Cal State Fullerton claimed a tightly contested first set before claiming momentum with a 2-0 lead.
In the third set, the Catamounts jumped out to a lead but Cal State Fullerton fought back and was able to take the third set 27-25 to win the match.
Abigail Veit had a double-double with 15 kills and 14 digs. Merry Gebel also recorded a double-double with 13 kills and a team-leading 19 digs. Meagan Sanchez had 17 digs.
Match 2: Western Carolina 3, Alabama State 0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-17)
The Catamounts cruised to their first sweep of the season and their third win in four meetings against the Hornets.
Merry Gebel had a team-best 16 kills. Meagan Sanchez had 14 digs followed by Noelle Soldo with 10.
The Catamounts face Chicago State on Saturday at 2 pm Eastern.
