JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. –  Western Carolina women's tennis dropped its second Southern Conference contest of the season with a 6-1 loss to ETSU Thursday at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex. 
 
The Catamounts were competing without one of its players due to injury, which resulted in a forfeit of singles match No. 6.
 
TURNING POINT:
ETSU won the doubles point and went on to pick up victories at No. 1, 3, 4 and five singles. The Catamounts forfeited No. 6 singles.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Jacy Smith earned the Catamounts' sole point after defeating ETSU's Alejandra Morales 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles.
  • At the No. 1 singles spot, Jordan Strickland took ETSU's Laylo Bakhodirova to a tight third set, but ultimately dropped the match 3-6, 6-4, 10-8.
  • After a hiccup at Elon, Strickland and Smith picked up right where they left off, adding a fourth doubles win on the season with a 6-0 blanking at No. 1 doubles.
  • Western Carolina earned a singles win at No. 2 and a doubles win at match No. 1.
  • Singles match No. 6 ended in default as Western Carolina didn't field an athlete due to injury.
 
NOTES:
  • The tandem of Strickland and Smith are 4-1 at No. 1 doubles.  
  • Smith is 2-0 at No. 2 singles.
 
UPCOMING:
The Catamounts will be back in action on Saturday, Mar. 7 at noon as they travel to Chattanooga to take on the Mocs.
