Marshall Pours in 20 Points as Catamounts Sink Buccaneers

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Nadia Marshall scored a season-high 20 points, off the bench, to help lead Western Carolina women's basketball to a 74-48 win over Charleston Southern Saturday on Ingles Court in the Ramsey Center. 
 
Turning Point:
Coming from behind to take a 14-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, Western Carolina went on to outscore the Buccaneers 23-12 in the second quarter and kept the pressure on in the second half. The Catamounts only gave up eight points to Charleston Southern in the fourth quarter. 
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Marshall just missed her second double-double of the season with 20 points and nine rebounds. 
  • Redshirt super senior Tembre Moates poured in a season-high 12 points in her first start of the season. 
  • Sophomore Audrey Meyers just missed scoring in double figures with nine points and also dished out a career-high six assists and also had four steals. 
  • Sha'Mya Leigh led Charleston Southern with 11 points. 
 
 Inside the Box Score
  • Western Carolina shot a scorching 48.4 percent from the field and held the Buccaneers to 33.3. 
  • The Catamounts scored 50 of its 74 points inside the paint. 
  • For the second straight game, the Catamounts could not connect behind the three-point arch going 0-for-9. The Buccaneers hit seven treys. 
  • Western Carolina had 17 turnovers and forced Charleston Southern to cough up the ball 22 times. The Catamounts scored 21 points off turnovers. 
  • The Catamounts went to the free-throw line 14 times hitting 21. 
  • Western Carolina doubled up Charleston Southern on the glass ripping down 48 boards to the Buccaneers 22. 
  • The Catamounts held the lead for over 32 minutes in the game. 
 
 News & Notes
  • Western Carolina's 3-1 record to open the season is the best start for a Catamount women's basketball team since the 2011-12 campaign. 
  • The Catamounts have scored 70 or more points in three of the first four games of the season. 
  • Marshall is the second Catamounts to score 20 or more points on the season. Oduah scored 26 points in the loss to UNC Asheville on Nov. 12.
  • All but two Catamounts who saw action on the court got in the scoring column.
