Catamounts Fall to Davidson at Home Monday

Zanoria Cruz ties season-high with 15 points

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Sophomore Zanoria Cruz tied her season-high with 15 points as Western Carolina women's basketball fell at home to Davidson 68-46 Monday afternoon on Ingles Court in the Ramsey Center. 
 
Turning Point:
Davidson outscored Western Carolina 19-8 in the first quarter and 31-18 at the half to build a solid lead the Catamounts could not overcome. 
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Cruz led the Catamounts with 15 points connecting on a career-high three three-pointers. 
  • Endia Holliday and Nadia Marshall just missed scoring in double figures with eight points each. 
  • Suzi-Rose Deegan led Davidson and all scorers with 17 points. 
 
 Inside the Box Score
  • Davidson took control of the game from behind the three-point arc, hitting seven three-pointers, and was also solid at the charity stripe with 19-of-23 freebies. 
  • The Wildcats controlled the boards ripping down 43 rebounds to the Catamounts' 37 with 29 of Davidson's 43 rebounds coming from the defensive end. 
  • Western Carolina hit four three-pointers as three were credited to Cruz.
  • Western Carolina had its best scoring output in the fourth quarter outscoring Davidson 16-10. 
  • Davidson had its biggest lead of the game with 8:24 remaining in the game with a score of 63-33.
  • Western Carolina turned 13 Davidson turnovers into 14 points.
  • The Catamounts got 30 of its 46 points inside the paint. 
  • Both teams got the majority of their points from the bench with WCU getting 36 points and Davidson 35. 
 
 News & Notes
  • Redshirt senior Tembre Moates had two rebounds in the game and is sitting at 499 career rebounds. She needs one rebound to gain entrance into the program's 500 rebound club becoming the 30th member. 
  • Sophomore Sophia Singer saw her most significant time of the season as she played six-plus minutes and hit the first three-pointer of her Catamount career. 
  • Freshman Bailey Trumm earned her first start of the season. 
  • Cruz has scored in double figures in three of her last five games. 
 
 
Up Next
Western Carolina will take an 11-day break, for the holidays, before closing out 2022 at home on New Year's Eve day hosting Southern Wesleyan at 2 p.m. on Ingles Court in the Ramsey Center.
