Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina football and head coach
Mark Speir completed their 2021 signing class on Wednesday evening, inking five high school seniors to National Letters of Intent (NLI) on the traditional National Signing Day. The five additions bring WCU's signing class total to 14 after the Catamounts signed nine in the early signing period back in mid-December.
Â
Among the five additions on Wednesday were two wide receivers, two linebackers, and one along the offensive line that hail from four different states – two from Georgia and one apiece from Florida, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. The Catamounts added wide receivers
Toler Keigley (Pensacola, Fla.) and
Miller DeArmond (Greer, S.C.), with linebackers
Davis Ridings (Athens, Ga.) and spur
Jerius Edwards (Carrollton, Ga.) who was the final NLI approved on Wednesday. Offensive lineman Anthony Giasante (North Huntingdon, Pa.) was a third offensive player inked on the traditional first Wednesday of February.
Â
All told between the two signing periods, WCU landed nine defensive players including four defensive backs, three linemen and two linebackers with five on offense including a combined three wide receivers, an offensive lineman and a quarterback.
Â
Five of WCU's 2021 recruits received at least two stars from either 247Sports.com or Rivals.com as high school student-athletes including two – WR
Toler Keigley and DB
Dramarian McNulty – who received three star ratings.
Â
Â
"I feel like we've added five really talented high school seniors to our class today," said Speir on his National Signing Day additions. "All five are outstanding student-athletes who come from really good football programs that have a tradition in winning. We feel like they help fill some of our needs on both sides of the football."
Â
Speir and WCU plan to add additional players to its 2021 incoming class in the coming days with both scholarship and preferred walk-ons.
Â
Western Carolina returns to practice on Wednesday afternoon in preparation for its eight-game Southern Conference spring football schedule that opens on Saturday, Feb. 20 with a road trip to chromatic conference rival, Furman. Start times and attendance policies at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field for WCU's four home league dates this spring will be announced in the coming days. The Catamounts are scheduled to host VMI (March 6), The Citadel (March 13), Chattanooga (April 3), and Wofford (April 10).
