MONTREAT, N.C. – Western Carolina recorded three event wins and multiple top-five finishes on Saturday as the Catamounts wrapped up the Montreat Invitational.
In the team standings, the WCU women took first place with 118 points while the men's team finished in fifth place with 59 points.
"I feel pretty good about our performance at the first meet of the outdoor season," head coach
Jesse Norman stated. "I feel like we were able to pick off right where we left off following the indoor season and I'm excited to see how much we're able to improve at our next meet."
Senior
Lesleigh Tabor led a WCU 1-2 finish in the women's shot put with a winning throw of 13.31 meters (43'8"). Junior
Victoria Solheim was second with a top distance of 12.38 meters (40' 7.5"). Solheim picked up her second runner-up finish of the day in the women's discus thanks to her throw of 39.85 meters (130'9").
In her outdoor debut, freshman
Dami Shodeinde won the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.08. Classmate
Amaya English was third at 14.91.
WCU performed well in the relays as sophomore
Marissa Blakely, senior
Dominiq Delisser, senior
Kellsie Whitehead, and sophomore
Mekyll Robinson won the women's 4x400-meter relay in 3:52.41. Whitehead, Robinson, Delisser, and junior
Makaila McIntyre finished second in the women's 4x100-meter relay with a time of 47.19.
Robinson was the runner-up in the women's 200-meter dash after completing the race with a time of 24.96. She also finished in fourth place in the women's 100-meter dash after she crossed the finish line at 12.32 seconds.
McIntyre led two WCU student-athletes in the top five of the women's triple jump as she finished third with her mark of 12.10 meters (39'8.5"). Freshman
Omare McBride finished fifth thanks to a leap of 11.80 meters (38'8.75").
Blakely scored a third-place finish in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 58.43.
On the men's side, junior
Mac Bennett's personal best throw of 47.48 meters (155'9") earned him a second-place finish in the men's discus. Senior
Jay Stanley picked up his second top-five finish of the meet with a fourth-place result with his mark of 44.17 meters (144'11").
In the men's shot put, Bennett finished fifth with a top throw of 15.30 meters (50'2.5"). Sophomore
Adam Hart threw a personal best 15.04 meters (49'4.25") to finish in fourth place.
The quartet of junior
Kaleb Ambrose, freshman
Marcus Brown, freshman
Kevin Haley, Jr., and freshman
Trevor Bone closed out the meet in the men's 4x400-meter relay with a third-place finish, crossing the finish line with a time of 3:20.58.
Sophomore
Jonathan Lehe finished fifth in the men's pole vault after he cleared a height of 4.25 meters (13'11.25"). Lehe tied an outdoor personal best with that height.
Senior
Shon Pratcher placed fifth in the men's triple jump with a leap of 13.59 meters (44'7").
The Catamounts have a short turnaround as they venture to the High Point VertKlasse Meeting on Thursday, April 1, and Friday, April 2.
