CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Western Carolina track & field teams host the first of two home meets this Friday and Saturday with the Catamount Classic The meet is the first to be held on the newly resurfaced track at the Catamount Athletic Complex.
Due to the current state of North Carolina Executive Orders for outdoor venue attendance and using physical distancing guidelines through university standards,
no spectators will be allowed to attend the meet. Live results will be available via a link on catamountsports.com.
The meet is scheduled to begin on Friday at 2 p.m. with the women's hammer throw and men's pole vault. Other Friday field events include the men's and women's javelin along with men's and women's long jump. Track action starts at 4 p.m. with women's 100-meter hurdle preliminaries and concludes with the men's 5000-meter run around 8 p.m.
Saturday's action begins at 12:10 with shot put, high jump, discus, and triple jump in the field and the women's 4x100-meter relay. The meet is scheduled to conclude around 4 p.m. with the men's 4x400-meter relay. Before Saturday's competition, 14 WCU seniors will be honored.
Along with the Catamounts, SoCon foes ETSU, UNCG, and Wofford are expected to attend. Additionally, Montreat, Livingstone (women's team only), North Georgia, Tusculum, and UNC Asheville will have student-athletes at the meet.
Last weekend at the Gamecock Invitational, senior
Makaila McIntyre won the women's long jump with a leap of 5.84 meters (19'2"). She also finished fifth in the triple jump. Including McIntyre's efforts, the Catamounts tallied five top-five results.
After a weekend off, WCU hosts the Southern Conference Championship in Cullowhee on May 1-2.
