Catamount Football - 2022 National Signing Day Central
Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina and head coach Kerwin Bell today put the finishing touches on a very solid 2022 incoming class during Wednesday's National Signing Day. Including the 10 student-athletes signed in December's early period, five college transfers, and 15 high school seniors that inked a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play for the Catamounts, Bell and his staff capped the day with 30 new faces for the 2022 fall semester.
The 30 recruits were nearly equally split between needs on defense and offense with 16 slated to line up on the defensive side of the ball and 14 offensive players. Seven are denoted as linemen including for on offense and three defensive linemen with one tight end added. The offense added nine skill players including five wide receivers, two running backs, and a pair of quarterback signees. Defensively, eight players were inked for the secondary and five linebackers.
A combined 12 members of WCU's incoming class received at least two stars from 247Sports or Rivals including 10 that earned three-star rankings.
With tremendous recruiting ties to the Sunshine State, Bell and his staff were able to recruit 22 players from Florida to Cullowhee for the 2022 season. Four players from North Carolina signed between the two periods with two from Texas and one apiece from Kentucky and Tennessee. Bell and his staff expect to add several more in-state products as preferred walk-ons as he and his staff continue to build the program's in-state recruiting ties.
