CLINTON, S.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis won its fourth-straight match defeating Presbyterian 6-1 Sunday at Templeton Tennis Courts.
TURNING POINT:
The Catamounts won two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point and won five of the six singles matches.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Kata Foldeak and Miray Konar teamed up at No. 2 doubles for a 6-1 win while Jordyn King and Luzia Obermeier won at No. 3 doubles 6-4.
- For the second straight match, Obermeier breezed through the No. 2 singles winning 6-4, 6-3, and earning the first singles win of the match for the Catamounts.
- Presbyterian cut the Catamount lead, to 2-1 with a win at No. 5 singles.
- Jacy Smith put a buffer between the Catamounts and Blue Hose winning at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-4.
- Antonella Benavides won a tie-breaker match for the Catamounts' fourth win, 5-7, 7-5, 10-8.
- Jordyn King clinched the match with a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 6 singles.
- Foldeak won a marathon three-set match at No. 1 singles taking the first set 6-4, dropping the second set 6-7 (4-7) before bouncing back to win the third set 6-1.
NOTES:
- Western Carolina's 5-2 record, to open the season, is the best start for the Catamounts since the 2015-16 season when the team opened 5-2 as well.
- Smith now has 28 career wins in singles play which ranks sixth in the WCU record books.
- Foldeak leads the team with five singles wins this season.
- King, Obermeier, and Foldeak each have five doubles wins.
- The Catamounts are now 3-2 in road matches.
