James Hinson drove a pinch-hit double to left-center field to score
Bryson Parks to tie Friday's Southern Conference series-opener with Wofford at one in the top of the third inning. However, it was as close as Western Carolina would get as the Terriers pushed across seven runs in the decisive home half to retake the lead and ultimately win game one 15-4 over the Catamounts at Russell C. King Field.
Game two of the three-game SoCon series is scheduled for Saturday afternoon with a 3 p.m. start. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ (

WCU's 10 base hits were scattered between 10 different players with five going for extra bases including doubles by Hinson,
Brandon Butterworth, and
Daniel Walsh, with
Cody Rech legging-out his second triple of the season with a RBI attached late in the game. Parks and
Pascanel Ferreras both reached twice in the loss with singles and walks.
The Catamounts had just three RBI in the loss with runs plated by Hinson, Rech, and
Will Prater who pushed across a run on an infield groundout
Reliever
Lucas Hartman (1-2) suffered the loss in recording just one out in a third of an inning, allowing five runs on just three hits with two walks after starter
Zach Franklin was lifted after just two innings. Franklin, who was batting through a lower-body issue stemming from last Friday's start against Mercer, struck out two against three walks in allowing one run on just three hits.
Tristen Campbell and
Matt Schepel both struck out two out of the bullpen.
Wofford starter Matthew Marchal (5-2) earned the victory, striking out five over six innings while limiting WCU to one run on just five base hits.
Five Terriers posted multi-hit games including a 4-for-6 effort by Ryan Galanie with Brennen Dorighi (2-for-6) and Nolen Hester (2-for-3) both driving in three apiece.
