Cullowhee, N.C. -- The Western Carolina track and field team is getting ready to split as the Catamounts take on both the Duke Invitational (April 11-13) and the Brevard Invite (April 12) this weekend.
52 Catamounts are currently scheduled to see action in Durham during the Duke Invitational, though the meet's schedule has shifted due to projected weather conditions. The only events scheduled to take place on the opening day of action are the women's and men's hammer throws, meaning that Toria Roundtree will be the first member of the Purple and Gold to see action.
Events are scheduled to resume Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. with the men's discus, the women's high jump and portions of the men's decathlon. Dominick Dale, Austin Ramirez, and Jacob Thomas will start the day in the circle for the Catamounts.
The Duke Invitational will close Saturday as events begin at 11:00 a.m. with the men's shot put, women's long jump, and the men's triple jump. The men's discus trio plus Riley Center will compete in the shot put while David Dorbin, Nathan Williams, Kendall Hudson, and Jasmine Greene compete in their respective jumps.
Catamounts to Watch
The Purple and Gold will be getting their first heptathlon and decathlon scores of the season at the Duke Invitational as Heidi Hudson, Dakota Braucher, Colby Capps, Ethan Hibberts, and Damon Worley are all scheduled to compete in their respective events. The quartet on the men's side competed in the heptathlon during the indoor season, but Hudson did not place in the pentathlon.
WCU will be well represented in the 200m as 14 Catamounts are scheduled to sprint in the event Friday afternoon. The top times in the event so far this season belong to Leah Butler and Quinton Godfrey, who have times of 25.92s and 21.87s respectively.
