Catamount Football Completes Saturday Scrimmage

Four practices remain, culminates with next Saturday’s Spring Game

Cullowhee, N.C. – Chamber of Commerce weather conditions accompanied by unseasonably cooler temperatures greeted the Catamounts on Saturday morning as Western Carolina football completed its second weekend scrimmage on the turf of Bob Waters Field at E.J. Whitmire Stadium as part of Practice No. 11.

Western Carolina's offense scored on each of its first four possessions on Saturday. Among the highlights, running back Corey Reddick scored on around a 70-yard touchdown romp, while returning tailback Branson Adams punched in a four-yard touchdown run off tackle.

Among the five quarterbacks that split reps, returning starter Cole Gonzales was sharp during the early parts of Saturday's scrimmage. Redshirt freshman wide receiver Santana Fleming made several contested catches through tight coverage by the WCU secondary. Tight end Jake Young also came down with a 40-yard circus catch at the two-yard line among the notable plays.

On special teams, placekicker Paxton Robertson split the uprights from 35 yards out.

WCU has four remaining practice sessions this spring including three afternoon sessions during the week ahead of next Saturday's annual Spring Game scheduled for a Noon start. As part of the Super 'Wheekend, Catamount volleyball holds its spring intrasquad scrimmage on Friday evening with Catamount baseball hosting UNCG at 3 p.m. on Saturday following the conclusion of the spring football game.

Unless otherwise noted, each spring football practice is open to the public. It is respectfully requested, though, that spectators observe from the stadium seating area and avoid being either on the field or the sidelines. All WCU football practice dates and times are subject to change.
