New Orleans, La. – With the 18-team field ranging between three to four holes shy of completing the second round, darkness chased golfers from the course at the English Turn Golf and Country Club on Monday evening at the Gulf Coast Collegiate, hosted by the University of New Orleans.
Including the Catamounts, three of the four teams paired with Western Carolina sit atop the incomplete leaderboard as Central Arkansas and Louisiana-Monroe share the lead, just ahead of WCU which is in the clubhouse in third. The Cats are unofficially six strokes off the pace and lead fourth-place Southeastern Louisiana by a stroke and are four clear of fifth-place Murray State – though the field scoring remains scattered after nightfall.
Again, with the second round yet to be completed, WCU unofficially has three golfers inside the Top 12 and its counting four inside the top 20.
Catamount junior transfer
Callum Waugh was tied for 10th after the first round after shooting 1-over par 73, closing his round with back-to-back birdies to rally late. Amidst his second round, he has doubled the number of birdies with four and sits at 1-under par with holes No. 1 through No. 3 to play. Classmate and former Lindsey Wilson College teammate
Ivan Ninkovic is tied with freshman
Chase Cline in 12th with three holes to finish, both down two spots after matching Waugh in a 10th-place tie after 18 holes with matching scores of 73.
Sophomore
Jace Butcher shot 3-over par 75 in Monday's first round, playing his final seven holes at even-par. He carried that momentum into the start of the second round, carding a trio of birdies among his first five holes on the second turn. He is tentatively in 20th, up four positions over the second round with three holes left.
Rounding out WCU's scoring five is
Andrew Korytoski in 42nd, down seven spots from his 35th position after 18 holes following a first-round 4-over par 76.
Cline led WCU with four birdies in the first round, followed by Ninkovic with three and both Waugh and Korytoski with two apiece.
Playing unattached as an individual, senior
Kiefer Bulau has vaulted up the leaderboard thus far in the second round, climbing 23 positions into a tie for 31st as he, too, has three remaining holes to play. The Canadian-born striker shot 6-over par 78 in the first round but is 2-under par through 15 holes.
The teams will resume round two at 9 a.m. ET / 8 a.m. CT before rolling into the tournament's final 18 holes. Live scoring through the Scoreboard app by Clippd is available online through links at CatamountSports.com.
