Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina Catamount baseball has 22 players playing and a pair coaching across the various summer wooden bat leagues, with all 22 playing regionally between North Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia.
 
Eleven Catamounts are spread between six teams in the Coastal Plain League (CPL), with seven playing on three teams in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League (SCBL). WCU also has a pair of baseball student-athletes playing as teammates in both the Georgia and Alabama-based Sunbelt Baseball League, as well as the Virginia-based Valley Baseball League (VBL).
 
All told, 15 Catamounts are playing across North Carolina, with five in Virginia and two in Georgia, playing in Gainesville in northern Georgia.
 
Two former Catamounts and assistants with the 2025 squad, Nate Stocum and Gavin Mortenson, are leading the Old North State League (ONSL) with the Hendersonville Honeycrisps based in western North Carolina. Stocum is serving as the squad's head coach with Mortenson assisting.
 
Three WCU teammates – outfielders Hayden Friese and Elijah Smith, as well as pitcher John Lobs – are all teaming in southern Virginia with the Martinsville Mustangs, with a second trio – right-handed pitcher Gavin Maines, battery-mate Noah Quarless, and outfielder Yates Sikes – are all teammates just 60 miles to the south with the High Point-Thomasville Hi-Toms. Rounding out the three sets of Catamount teammates are pitchers Griffin Guinther and Bryant Kimbrell are together in the Port City playing for the Wilmington Sharks.
 
Three individuals – outfielder Brayden Corn (Forest City Owls), RHP Kaden Fuller (Asheboro ZooKeepers), and infielder Wyatt Stanley (Morehead City Marlins) are also playing in the CPL.
 
Western Carolina infielders Trey Spees and Jackson Lyda, and outfielder Brody Raleigh are teammates with the Mooresville Spinners in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League (SCBL). Freshmen Alex Robinson and Jackson Godfrey are teaming with the Statesville Owls, while Caden Haywood and Tyler Sumner are on the Lake Norman Copperheads roster in the same league.
 
Rounding out the Catamounts on the 2025 roster playing in summer wooden bat leagues are infielder Jaylen Jones and LHP Jacob Arnberger on the Gainesville GolDiggers roster in the Sun Belt Baseball League in Georgia, while Davis Budd and Josh Ossiander are in the Valley Baseball League on the roster for the Strasburg Express.
 
CatamountSports.com will provide updates throughout the summer around the midpoint of the summer. Each league has a scheduled all-star game in July, including the CPL All-Star game July 6-7 and the Valley League all-star game on July 13.
