Men’s Golf Opens Penultimate Spring Event Sunday

Catamounts are in Spartanburg, S.C., for the Wofford Invitational

Cullowhee, N.C. – Catamount men's golf begins play in its penultimate event ahead of the 2026 Southern Conference Championship this weekend, opening competition at the Wofford Invitational on Sunday at the par-72, 6,434-yard Country Club of Spartanburg.

The three-round, 54-hole tournament opens with 8:30 a.m. tee times off the first and 10th tees on both Sunday and Monday, before a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday for the final round. Live scoring for each round is available online through the Scoreboard app, powered by Clippd.

In addition to the host Terriers and the Catamounts, the 15-team field includes golfers from three other Southern Conference schools in Furman, Mercer, and Samford. Rounding out the competitors are Francis Marion, High Point, Longwood, Providence College, Radford, South Carolina, USC Aiken, USC Upstate, USF, and Winthrop.

Playing in foursomes, the Catamounts are paired with golfers from Francis Marion and Longwood. In addition to its scoring five, WCU will also have a pair of individuals vying for the medalist honors.

Junior Jace Butcher, who ranks eighth in the SoCon in scoring average, leads the Catamount scoring five into the Wofford Invitational. A SoCon men's golf weekly award winner this spring, Butcher has a seasonal scoring average of 72.35 and is one of just four golfers in the league with medalist honors this season. He is flanked by three-time SoCon weekly honoree – and a second of the four winners in the league this season – in redshirt sophomore teammate Tyler Jones, who continues to pace the SoCon in stroke average at 70.50.

Junior Michael Bevins (74.33) played his way into WCU's scoring five, seeded third just ahead of classmate Andrew Korytoski (74.27) as the No. 4 seed. Bevins ranks 30th in the league, one spot back from his teammate. Senior Ivan Ninkovic, seventh in the SoCon in seasonal scoring average at 72.23, rounds out the Catamount scoring five.

WCU has a pair of individuals in freshman Charlie Coe (75.50) and junior Dalton Payne (75.42), both in this weekend's field.

The Catamounts last played in the Wofford Invitational in 2024, finishing seventh overall with a three-round score of 871. Ninkovic finished tied for 21st in that event, with Butcher (t-40) and Korytoski (t-55) also seeing action.

Following the Wofford Invitational, the Catamounts close out the schedule with the 2026 SoCon Men's Golf Championship, April 27-29 at the Solina Golf Club in West Columbia, S.C., with the team champion advancing to the NCAA Championship field.
