Spartanburg, S.C. – Moving atop the individual leaderboard in Monday's second round, Western Carolina's
Tyler Jones painted a picture of consistency as he methodically pulled away over Tuesday's final 18 holes, earning the third individual medalist honor of his debut season in Cullowhee by winning the Wofford Invitational.
A redshirt sophomore from Jacksonville, N.C., Jones carded his third-straight round in the 60s on Tuesday. He bookended his 54 holes with blemish-free rounds, carding a tournament-best 41 pars and 11 birdies to earn the three-stroke victory over hard-charging Dylan Park from Winthrop. Jones finished with a 9-under par 204, while Park shot 6-under 207.
The Catamounts finished third overall, down a spot from Monday and just a stroke out of the runner-up position with a team 5-under par, 847. USC Aiken, 19th in the latest NCAA Division II rankings, posted a third-straight round of 280 for a three-round score of 840 to win the Wofford Invitational, six strokes clear of runner-up, No. 49 USF (846). Winthrop (848) finished a stroke in arrears of WCU in fourth, with event host, Wofford (851), rounding out the top five.
WCU has eight Top Five finishes this season, which include six podium showings.
Opening on hole No. 2, Jones posted five-straight pars before his first of two birdies in Tuesday's final round. He then played the next 11 holes at even-par, including the entire back nine. Jones capped his regular season with his 11th birdie on his 54th hole of the tournament.
Jones paced the field in par-4 scoring, shooting 6-under (3.82), while finishing tied for second in par-3 scoring at 1-under (2.92).
Junior
Jace Butcher gained a team-best 10 spots over the final 18 holes to finish 12th overall with a score of 1-under par 212 in aiding WCU's team podium finish. He was just a stroke outside of the Top 10, finishing with a team-high-tying 11 birdies.
Butcher opened Tuesday's final round at 4-under par through his first 14 holes, posting 10 pars and four birdies. However, a double-bogey on the par-5, 510-yard 17th – a hole he eagled on Sunday – relegated him to 2-under for the day. The Kennesaw, Ga., native closed his round with a fifth birdie before a bogey on his 18th hole of the day left him at 2-under 69.

Junior
Andrew Korytoski dropped two spots to 14th in the final standings, finishing the event at even-par, 213. He overcame an opening double-bogey, twice pushing back from a 3-over par score by countering bogeys with three birdies for the 1-over par, 72. Korytoski finished with 10 birdies and was tied for second in par-4 scoring at 1-under (3.97).
Rounding out WCU's scoring five were senior
Ivan Ninkovic, down nine positions into a tie for 55th overall at 12-over par 225, and junior
Michael Bevins, who slid into a tie for 58th at 14-over par, 227.
Playing unattached as individuals, WCU junior
Dalton Payne finished tied for 77th with a three-day score of 231, while freshman
Charlie Coe was 82nd with a score of 233. Both Payne and Coe had seven birdies apiece over the three-day tournament.
Western Carolina now turns its attention to the 2026 Southern Conference Men's Golf Championship, scheduled for April 27-29, at the Solina Golf Club in West Columbia, S.C., the site of last year's women's championship. The Catamounts enter the conference championship event boasting the top team scoring average in the SoCon this season at 287.0, averaging 71.75 per round to date. WCU is tied for the SoCon-best with eight Top 10 finishes, including six top-three performances.
The winner of the 2026 SoCon Championship will garner the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Golf postseason, with the individual medalist, if not a part of the victorious team, earning an at-large individual bid to the postseason.
