Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina women's golf opens the 2026-27 season on Monday with a short trip to Clemson, S.C., for the third annual Tiger Classic. It marks the third consecutive season the Catamounts have competed in the one-day, 36-hole event on the Tigers' home course.
Monday's tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start on the par-72, 6,276-yard layout.
Live scoring will be available through the Scoreboard app, powered by Clippd, and linked online at CatamountSports.com.
In addition to Western Carolina and host Clemson, the eight-team field includes Southern Conference foes East Tennessee State and UNCG, as well as Augusta University, East Carolina, UNC Asheville, and West Georgia.
All seven Catamount golfers will compete in the season opener, with a pair of individuals joining the scoring five. Paired with golfers from UNCG, Asheville, and West Georgia in foursomes, the Catamount lineup opens the shotgun start between Holes No. 8 and No. 12 on Monday. WCU's two individuals will tee off on No. 7 and No. 14.
Junior Elsa Maren Steinarsdóttir, who led the Catamounts in scoring average last season and recorded two top 10 finishes, enters the year atop the lineup. She is joined by true freshman
Kelsey Haverluck, who earned the No. 2 spot through preseason qualifying. The Westfield, Ind., native is one of four rookies set to make her collegiate debut on Monday.

Annalee Caveney, who carded one of her best rounds of her 2025-26 season at Clemson, opens the year in the No. 3 position. Freshmen
Marissa Scaletta (Belton, S.C.) and
Julia Capellini (Apex, N.C.) round out the team's scoring five.

Julie Mathea Busch Braathen, Western Carolina's second international player on the roster, will compete as individuals in pursuit of medalist honors.
Monday's event opens a busy fall schedule that features five tournaments before the end of October. The Catamounts return to North Carolina for the Elon Invitational (Sept. 14-15) and the Tot Hill Farm Invitational (Sept. 28-29) in Asheboro before heading back to South Carolina for the Terrier Intercollegiate in Spartanburg (Oct. 12-13) and the Edisto Island Invitational (Oct. 19-20).
